Retirement

Recently, Chuck Pazman, one of our repair technicians and later repair shop coordinator finally decided to retire. I wanted to share a little bit about him with everyone, so I sent Chuck an email asking about his educational and musical career. He was nice enough to oblige me with a quick run down.

Chuck graduated from Oakmont High School in 1955 where he had been a protégé of Jay Matchett. He attended Carnegie Tech and graduated in 1960 with Bachelors of Fine Arts in bassoon performance and music education. Chuck continued his education with graduate studies at Duquesne University, Kent State University, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania.

Chuck spent three years in the North Braddock School District, now part of Woodland Hills School District before joining the staff at Franklin Regional in 1963 as the elementary instrumental specialist. He worked there until his retirement in 1996.

Chuck also worked as the owner/operator of Chuck's Woodwind Repair from 1976 until he joined the staff at Johnstonbaugh's Music Centers as a repair technician in 1996. In 2004, he became the Repair Shop Coordinator until January 2011.

To celebrate the repair shop staff took Chuck out to lunch in mid-February.

We'd like to extend our thanks to Chuck for being such a vital part of the business and wish him well in his retirement.

February Jam Session

We held our second jam session this past Friday and the idea seems to have taken off because attendance was up and we got almost everyone up to the front to participate.

In the spirit of last time, our three most avid performers started us off, this time with a rendition of Paranoid by Ozzy Osbourne.

Continuing on we had a solo instrumental version of The Wind Cries Mary by Jimi Hendrix.

And Ed played and told some stories, sharing what he's learned from years of experience.

Dave helped out some jamming on an E blues.

And again with a larger group.

It takes a lot of guts to get up and play in front of people, whether they're friends, families, or strangers. We really applaud everyone involved for putting themselves out on the line, especially when most of them haven't played together before. Please enjoy these selected clips from the session.

Thanks again to everyone who came to play or support those who did, and of course a special thanks to Dave Busch for running the show. We hope to see everyone at the next one; March 25th 2011 at 6PM.

The songs to work on for next time are:
Chameleon - Herbie Hancock
Sunshine of Your Love - Cream
Cissy Strut - The Meters
Iron Man - Black Sabbath
Bring it on Home - Led Zeppelin
